AS9100

AS9100 Certification Is Now Required By Aerospace Companies!

If you haven't heard, Airbus, Northrup Grumman, General Electric Aircraft Engines, and United Technologies are now requiring their suppliers to be certified to AS9100! Compliance is no longer an option.

In a letter dated March, 2004, Airbus is requiring their suppliers to be certified by an accredited registration body to AS9100. Additionally, if you supply heat treatment, non destructive testing, or composite manufacturing services you will also need PRI NADCAP certification.

In a letter dated August 1, 2003, GE Aircraft Engines stated that, "Effective January 1, 2004, GEAE will no longer accept AS9100 compliance as a system approval method. After this date, all suppliers must be certified to AS 9100." The Northrup Grumman Supplier Quality Assurance Requirements (SQAR) Manual states, "As of January 1, 2004 suppliers shall be compliant to ISO 9001:2000, AS9100A. Calibration suppliers will be required to be compliant to ISO 17025 or ANSI Z540Z-1. A third-party quality system certification will be required by December 2004."

United Technologies, in a letter dated February 7, 2003 stated, "Last February, in the spirit of standardization and variability reduction, UTC issued the referenced letter requesting suppliers to be compliant to AS9100 by July 2002. Taking that request one step further, all UTC suppliers are required to be registered to AS9100 by an independent, certified third-party Registrar effective June 30, 2004."
