An enthusiastic group of students completed classroom training for "Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification" at the Kent State University Stark Campus located in North Canton, Ohio on April 23, 2010. The class was facilitated by John Novak of Kent State University. He is also the President of KAVON International, Inc. and is a Certified Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt.
Students from the following organizations attended this training:
- DAI Ceramics, Inc.
- Jergens, Inc.
- The Dover Tank and Plate Co.
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Training and Certification offers the unique approach of weaving both Lean and Six Sigma methodologies into a seamless certification that helps students achieve substantial improvements in their organizations.
During the first week of training the students were introduced to the following topics:
- Lean Thinking
- Basics of Six Sigma Methods and Quality
- Using DMAIC to understand cause and effect relationships
- Team Building
- Identifying high value projects
- Using Minitab and Quality Companion
- Understanding Measurement System Analysis
- Process Capability
The first week concluded with a paper helicopter competition where two teams of students applied what they learned in order to achieve the longest flight time.
During the second week of training the students were introduced to the following topics:
- Application of Lean methods
- Using Kappa studies to determine attribute agreement
- Creating change through the use of appropriate performance metrics
- Using statistical methods for process control
- Using Kaizen tactics for rapid project breakthroughs
- Sustaining the gains from the improvements identified and implemented
The second week concluded with a catapult competition where two teams of students applied what they learned in order to hit a designated target at multiple distances.
After completing this classroom training, each of the students will work on and complete an individual project, which will contribute significant results to their sponsoring organization. Upon completion and acceptance of this project the student will become a Certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt.
