Ray DePuy specializes in helping firms and individuals improve. He has an extensive background as a teacher, trainer, and coach at all levels of workforce development. With technology-based companies, he facilitates the development of targeted manufacturing strategies, solves manufacturing and quality problems, and modernizes operations using lean manufacturing techniques. He has written a number of articles on manufacturing strategy and geometric dimensioning & tolerancing.
Before forming his own training and consulting company in 1997, The Edgecliff Group, he spent ten years with a not-for-profit organization helping small and medium size manufacturers move toward world-class status. He conceived, developed, marketed, and initiated approaches to aid manufacturers including a comprehensive course for CEOs and top managers to assist them in designing and implementing a customized competitive manufacturing strategy.
Prior, he had 21 years working in the manufacturing sector -- predominately the machine tool industry -- in positions (starting at age 19) ranging from draftsman, machine designer, design engineer, project engineer and project manager, to vice president of operations.
Concurrently, Ray was on the adjunct engineering faculty at Cleveland State University from 1978 until 2000, teaching various engineering and management courses. Since 2000, he has joined the adjunct faculties of several other colleges and universities teaching a number of business management courses both on-ground and on-line. He has conducted training sessions at additional colleges, the American Society for Quality (ASQ) and numerous manufacturing firms in the U.S. and Canada. He also has scripted and served as technical advisor for several training videos. He is considered an expert in geometric dimensioning & tolerancing. Additionally, he works on a number of economic development projects, and has been a regular contributor to newsletters, trade publications, and an "Internet magazine."
Mr. DePuy has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Cleveland State University and an MBA from Baldwin-Wallace College. Virtually all of his college studies were accomplished on a part-time basis while working full-time. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Ohio, and is a Certified Manufacturing Engineer. He is a past president of the Cleveland Engineering Society and served three 3-year terms on its Board of Directors.
